About Me

Who is Jordan Fowler?

A Gamer

From the early beginnings with Halo and Legend of Zelda, games had me hooked from the start. Growing up, I lived and breathed video games every second of my day. Whether it was grinding Overwatch ranked (I got to Grandmaster at one point) or playing classics like Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy X, I wanted everything to do with games. Nowadays, I can’t grind every game like I want to, but I enjoy playing many different kinds of games from different eras and genres.

As someone who is going to work within the games industry, I find it equally important to keep up with trending games and genres to understand what players want now and what they will want within the future.

My Top 5 Games of All Time

Persona 4 (2008)

Destiny 2 (2017)

Dark Souls III (2016)

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (2017)

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)

A Designer

Making games is equally as important to me as enjoying them. I want to give back to the art form that helped shape my life. As a designer, I strive to build fun and memorable experiences and then rebuild them because they could always be better.

I knew Level Design was my passion the second I took my first class at DigiPen. I wanted to make the engaging content players encountered as well as have a deep understanding of spaces, both in real life and virtually. I specialize in Multiplayer Level Design. The way players constantly engage with multiplayer maps works hand in hand with my iterative design process, and I love multiplayer games.

User Research is my second passion, but I’d describe it as a supportive skill I use for my Level Design. My User Research skills help me understand and communicate data I gain while playtesting my games and projects. This deeper understanding of how to test and interpret data supports my rapid iteration process.

A Person

At the end of the day, we’re people. Everyone has their hobbies, likes, and dislikes that don’t always relate to games. I love to cook, play Magic The Gathering, and build model kits in my spare time. Some of these hobbies can get expensive, looking at you model kits, so I don’t get to engage with them that often. Keeping my mind sharp and looking for inspiration beyond games is important to bringing new ideas to my work. I also love music and would give an album recommendation in a heartbeat.

Health is one of the most important things to me as a person. I can’t do my best work if I’m not doing well mentally or physically. This mindset came upon me when I had a depressive episode during my second semester of college. It was the only time in my academic career where I had failed a class. Failure is hard, but I believe it is the greatest teacher.
